Ever since the entire world was rocked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the internet, particularly social media, has sort of gone into an overdrive for the past couple of months.
Besides dealing with mis- and information of COVID-19, the world has been kept on its toes with racial unrest and for some industries, the allegations and aftermath of sexual misconduct.
With social media, it’s easy to intake the barrage of information mixed with negativity and toxicity. Coupled with our thoughts and feelings towards these issues, we inadvertently allow our mental health to take a toll.
If you notice yourself feeling exhausted or down after an intake of social media, I recommend that you give yourself a social media break for the next few hours or days. Use the social media break to connect with your family, friends or whatever social support you have, do something that you love, watch funny shows or movies, or even exercise. Do something to bring your mood up and give your mental and physical health some love and care.
The internet and its huge trove of information won’t disappear any time and it will be there when you’re ready to dive into social media again.
Stay mentally healthy, always.
